Roofing

I hired a contractor to do the roof. This will be the only thing except the concrete that we hire someone else to do. Standing seam, snap lock, galvanized steel . I was considering doing this myself also, but after seeing that it has taken 2 guys at least 18 hours to get to here, I am glad I hired it out.

Siding

After changing our minds several times, I decided to use up the 80 year old clear douglas fir siding from the old garage. I had saved it all and removed the nails from demolition. The exterior side was a mess with lots of old flaking paint (probably mostly lead). Since it was rabbited clapboard siding, it could be flipped and turned upside down to make flat face ship lap siding. It looks great after rough sanding it with 40 grit on the random orbital and putting a oil finish on. We may end up painting it after the years make it fade, but it looks nice for now.
The doors are old 4 x 7.5 douglas fir 12 panel pocket doors from the salvage store. They weigh a ton.
We were thinking of shingles in the gable, but kept the shiplap all the way up.

Also have beaded ply under the eaves

Roof

The roof was a simple design of 2 gables, but I had never done a valley before. I took the easy way out and made the intersection on top of the other roof in order to avoid complex rafter framing
Finally, the last of the 22 sheets of plywood.

Framing

Framing is coming along slowly. The 2-3 hours after work are slowed down by tool setup and cleanup.

Skylight

We decided to add a skylight in the second bedroom.Cut the hole on a Friday night at 6pm hoping to get it in before dark.

I got it in just in time before some drizzle came in.

Now there is a surplus of light in the center of the house.

The room is much more bright and plesant.
Finished and painted
